The MACA grows in the high Andean plateaus of Peru at altitudes up to 4,400 meters. Little is known about the origins of this plant, but the people of Junín and cultivated thousands of years ago.
Today is massive cultivation in the highlands of the Peruvian Andes, having spread consumption in Peru and exported in different presentations (flour, caps, etc), as a nutritional supplement.
Anthropological evidence found Maca cultivation in Peru since 1600 a. C. Maca was considered by the Incas as a gift from the gods. The Incas, well cultivated as food, used in religious ceremonies and ritual dances.
The Spanish chronicles relate that during the conquest of Peru, the animals brought from Spain did not reproduce normally at this point; Native warned the conquerors who fed their animals with maca; with what they managed to reach normal levels playback. Thus, during the first hundred years of colony formed part of the taxes levied by the encomendador.
This plant has beneficial properties for the nervous system especially memory. Also it is a great energizer and hormonal regulator. The beneficial effects reported Maca for sexual function could be due to its high concentration of proteins and vital nutrients.
